The .VSS files are data files containing one screens worth of scope data.HELLO TO ALL MY FELLOW SNAP DIAGNOSTIC TOOL USERS. They are not an image file so the only program that will be able to open them will be SSC. You would have to browse to the file on your PC with the SSC Data Manager, then open it. The files contain the data points and are not image files like .bmp or .jpg. To post one, make a screen capture as others have suggested. If you post the .vss file, when it is clicked on, the OS of the PC does not know how to open it and tries to open it with another program which can't.
The PC OS does this by file association. Files with particular file extensions (.txt, .bmp, etc) are associated with the program that can open them. When you try to open a file by double clicking on it from a file explorer window, the PC will check to see if it knows which program can be used to open that file type and if it does, it will start it. It can't currently do that with .VSS files because that viewer is part of SSC and cannot be run directly from Windows, it must be started with the SSC Data Manager.
Scanner data files (.SCM, .PIDs) however can be opened directly on a PC that SSC is loaded on. The scanner data viewer can be run standalone and Windows therefore can associate it to the files it can open. If you navigate to a .scm or .PIDs scanner file using a file explorer window on a PC with SSC installed, the PC knows by file association that the scanner viewer is used to open those files and it will start it up and the file will be opened with that viewer.
So this is why you can open scanner files from windows without starting SSC, but you can't do that with scope files.
I am looking into making the scope file viewer work like the Scanner viewer but we don't have anything planned yet.Comment

Go here and watch the "Performing a Screen Capture" video for tips on what program you can use to collect a screen capture which also allows you to annotate as needed:HELLO TO ALL MY FELLOW SNAP DIAGNOSTIC TOOL USERS.
