    Operate Modis Without Scope Module

    Hi All:

    I own a Modis and one of my chief complaints about it is the bulkiness and heaviness of it. I wish it were lighter and more compact like the Vantage Pro. So much so that I own a Vantage Pro and I never use the scope features of the Modis. It is strictly a glorified Solus for me. The other day I was looking at it and noticing the scope module hanging out. I figured out that the module simply pops out and can be stored safely away, reducing the chance of damage and making the tool's profile smaller and a little lighter.

    I am wondering - would it hurt the tool to run it with the module removed? I could fabricate an appropriate cover for the port on the top of the Modis to keep dust and other debris away from the internals of the Modis. It would certainly be a welcome reduction for me to have this option available but I don't want to do it if the tool will be compromised.

    Please share your advice.

      I would strongly not suggest it. The Modis activates the Labscope at start up and it may burn something up trying to turn everything on. Up too you though.Maybe trade in for a Verdict, it is super light and cordless. The franchisee's seem to be giving good trade in lately.

          Although I didn't buy one (I went for the Solus-Pro and the Vantage-Pro instead), I was told by SO that you could run the machine while the one module cartridge was out for repairs.

          The bulkiness and the fact that you could lose your entire arsenal at the same time was why I didn't buy the Modis.

          All-in-one machines, when they break (not IF they break) leave you with nothing.

              THE MODIS AND VERUS ARE BEST WHEN USED FROM A ROLLING CART(with long test leads). I BOUGHT THE SOLUS PRO AND V-PRO SO WHEN ONE BREAKS I'M NOT LEFT WITH NOTHING. LOOK AT ALL THE LISTINGS WITH TECHS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ALL IN ONE OR WIRELESS DEVICES. I'LL KEEP THE V-PRO,SO-PRO, AND THE LAPTOP SEPERATE (less problems).
