Had a ford explorer with no codes my shop was selling, guy took it to his tech to have it checked out. His tech said it had missfire codes, he said ford hides missfire codes in mode 6. I have a solus pro and I can't find how to get mode 6 or missfire info on my solus pro?? Can someone tell me how to do this, I have heard of mode 6 but this stuff is new to me. Alan

He is incorrect. There are no codes stored in Mode6. To get to Mode 6 you need to enter the vehicle through Global OBDII. I know you can get to it also in the vin specific side but do not recall the exact menu it is under. Maybe generic functions?? Then select Mode 6 from the menu. You will need to know which test id is the correct one for that model and year and select it. What you would see is misfire counters, which are not live, but stored, with a pass or fail. If it fails, it sets a code in the pcm you can read by reading the codes.MasterWrench -

To get to Mode 6 you will have to be in Global OBDII or if you are in vehicle specific go to generic functions. You will find all the Modes there. You will need to know year, make, model and engine to get the correct info as a PID, CID & MID will be differnt on different makes and models. Even the same makes year to year will be different! but for your info it should be under $53. Early Fords can be a pain because they will show two extra cylinders I.E. on a 4.0 6 cylinder it will have specs for cylinders 7 & 8 which are not there. And as Masterwrench stated this is NOT live data! Mode 6 can be useful but has a VERY BIG learning curve. Try contacting Nick (one of this forums MODS) his company puts out a GREAT book on it! Here is an example.

Thanks for the info. I have gone in to generic functions and saw the test ID #'s and PID's but couldn't figure out what test to use, how can I get or learn this information. Early cars use to have missfire info, the newer cars don't seem have it, as in each cylinder. I have had cars with a missfire and no cylinder #ID, and some cars with coil primary codes ( can't remember the code # ) but not tell me what cylinder #. And the car is not misfiring at the time I'm checking it, so I'm trying to find out how I can use my solus pro to find out what coil or cylinder is having the problem. AlanComment

The info for each vehice "should" be in your information system I.E. shopkey, Alldata, MOD. As I stated before, to learn Mode 6 contact Nick, his company sells a GREAT book on it.
