I've found that on MOST GM's, once you're into the "engine" section, there are groups such as "functional tests" or "generic tests" or "codes", etc.
Usually I've found readiness monitors in the codes section. I like the fact that you don't have to go into OBDII and use the K20 personality key (which is another issue that is discussed in another thread) just to take a quick look and then go back into "real" data.
Some vehicles, you can only find the readiness monitors in OBDII as Joe has stated.
Try to specify which tool you're using when posting, MT2500 (brick), Solus, Solus-PRO, Modis, Verus, Ethos, are all SnapOn scanners which are SIMILAR but not IDENTICAL in their functions and useage (despite advertising claims

oops....sorry not enough info.....it's an mt2500 scanner with a domestic primary cartridge 2001 version 7.1......thanks to all for your replies.......i already let the car go so i will have to get it back to scan it in the obd II generic mode.....i was not aware of that mode for the system readiness monitor status. again thanks to all for the info. mikeComment

BTW-- your original post started... "dumb question?"
There are no dumb questions.
Your scanner seems a little dated. You might benefit if you could upgrade your software &/or aquire a newer style scanner. I still have my old brick and a scanner I bought back in 1989 (amongst others).
Sometimes "new & improved" is just new....so keep your old scanners around, they'll still come in handy at times.Comment
