    MT2500 Cartridges

I need to update the cartridges for my MT2500.

What is the last year that updates were sold for the red cartridges both primary and T/S?

Is there any sort of update path from the red to the black cartridges?

Can NEW black cartridges be bought from Snapon and if so can someone give me an idea what they would cost?

Snapon does not stop here as we are too small for them to bother. I have to chase down a truck when I need something.

9.2 was last update for mt2500. This should give coverage to 2008 vehicles.

Red cartridges before 1995 can not be updated beyond 1994. 1995 and later red Primary cartridges can be updated to 2001 by replacing the PROM [Programable Read Only Memory chip] on the board. The 1995 and later Red Troubleshooter cartridges can only be updated by changing out the entire board.
For vehicle support beyond 2001 you need to buy the black, programmable cartridges. You can find these used on EBay. Lots of dealers selling old, 2003 & 2004 versions of these for $300 to $400 each, which is to much. I just purchased a 2007 Black VCI [Primary] cartridge for $225 on EBay. I also bought a 2005 Black TSI [Troubleshooter] cartridge for $125.
You have to watch and bid carefully to find good deals on EBay, but they are out there. I've seen the 2001 PROMS for sale for anywhere between $25 and $50 on EBay.

PS Beware of spending a lot of money on the red "Global" OBD II cartridges. They work, but they give VERY limited data streams and only the most basic OBD II codes can be read.
