Looking forward to Feburary 2010 for the vantage pro to be available in the UK

Had a Citroen C3 1.4 MPI year 2003 in the other day, customer complained that the instrument display EML came on and the instrument display engine temperature gauge started to read low?

I put the Solus pro scanner onto the vehicle and read the fault codes which came back with set code P1161 - Throttle Position Copy?

I said well it must be something to do with the throttle pedal or throttle butterfly housing, but what would that have to do with the engine temperature gauge reading low?

Some people have complained that the scanners do not pick up the correct fault codes when problems arise, my experience is new with the scanner?

I road tested the car up to 70 MPH constant and graphed the data, to me the graphs seem to be pointing towards a fuel related fault, the lambda 1 before the CAT momentarily looses the switching signal and at the same time, the fuel trim (STFT) as the (LTFT) was not used on this model moved upto +20%, now my understanding was that negative fuel trim increased fuel but this was shown on the (LTFT) which is not used, so does the (STFT) on this model having two graphs (STFT)s indicate that both graphs showing +20% is reducing the fuel supply, the reason I ask now is because the front lambda momentarily stops reading, and lambda 2 after the cat which is reading but alot less than lambda 1 is also momentarily not reading at the same point on the graph displays?

The type of graph used for the coolant sensor indicates a continuous read out but as would be expected of a vehicle on the road at speed, the signal does slightly drop down lower on the graph scale.

Wished I knew how to upload them for you to see?

    What do you think

    David
Hi I found a site actually in the Uk.Called citroen-owners-club.co.uk on there I found this info
Intake Air Temperature Sensor Open/Short To Positive. P1161
As For fuel trims+ means adding fuel - means taking away so if its - Taking away you have to much and If its adding you have to little .High fuel trim would suggest a vaccum leak for example, to much air. Down load that escan program and go through that one in demo mode it has examples, video all just there for the looking. Will give you a feeling about what this Escan can do. Hope this helps you.

      Fuel trims

Hi David. I am including some more info on fuel trims. Hope this helps.
      Intake air leaks
      Incorrect Fuel Pressure
      Injector valve defective or coked
      Engine Temperature Sensor defective
      EGR valve defective
      Secondary air leak
Fuel evaporation control system defective or leaking.
      Air Mass Meter defective
      Vacuum leaks
      Oxygen sensor aging (slow response)
      Clogged or damaged catalytic converter
      Contaminated fuel
      Fuel tank ran empty
Combustion altered by a mechanical failure (Spark plugs, compression, intake/exhaust valves, ...etc.)
LTFT Adaption Value positive (+), LTFT >1.
Lack of fuel or too much air. ECU is attempting to increase the amount of fuel by increasing the injector
      open time.
This could be caused by unmetered air leaking past the EVAP, EGR or into the air intake system after the Air
Mass Meter or a fuel pump delivery problem or clogged or damaged fuel injector.
LTFT Adaption Value negative (-), 0<LTFT<1
Too much fuel, Lack of air. ECU is attempting to decrease the amount of fuel by decreasing the injector open
      time.
This could be due to leaking injector or a stuck open pintle supplying too much fuel.

      fueltrim http://www.baumtools.com/fueltrim.htm
      STFT Adaption Value positive (+)
Consistent high positive value can mean low exhaust back pressure, blown TWCC
      STFT Adaption Value negative (-)
Consistent high negative value can mean high exhaust back pressure, clogged TWCC.

        Fuel Trims

Thanks for the additional info on fuel trims hefaus, very much appreciated for the time and effort you have put in to help me with this thread

        Thanks

        Have a nice day

          Twcc

Hi David That stands for Three Way Catalyst Convertor. I had a brain fart for awhile on that one

            Hi hefaus

Thanks for that, would never have thought of that one?

            Three Way Cat Convertor?

            platinum, Rodhium, pladium

They make so many abbreviations, how do they expect us to keep up

            Thanks
