obd II adapters and k number keys.

Hi, ihave done a couple of reads, with the s'pro, have a query.......

It sometimes mentions connect via OBD II adapter with key K23 etc etc.

To read the older cars,i remove the key lead and currently connect my appropriate obd adapter to the data lead, some times the display reads use key K (what ever etc etc ) ..... should i be looking at another flylead to add to my kit and some extra keys.

An example of this is in the volvo programe :
training mode - european - 2003 - s40 - 2.0 turbo - powertrain: DL16 with key S7 or it mentions the OBD II adapter and key K2a or K20 for CAN systems.

I know the above is a training demo programme, but i have found similar options through doing my reads on live jobs, just looking for views and comments......

Currently running 9.4 will be upgrading to 10.2 when available.

thanks for your time and views folks.

    K27

    Euro Keys:
    S4, S7, S17, S20, S21, S27, S28, S33, S34, S39, S44, S51, S64
*S4, S17, S20* OPTIONAL FOR USE WITH DODGE SPRINTER, CHRYLSER CROSSFIRE.

      Hi,thanks for your views, i am using 9.4 s/ware.

All the keys i have are S only,i have NO k keys,i do have the majority of OBD adapters,eg niss2,vaux1,toyota 1&2 and many more, these are simple adapters that plug direct to the data lead to the s'pro, there is no provision to add any keys 'k' as directed/suggested by the s'pro.

I will continue to monitor the key options and note them down as i go along, then may be some one could tell me what lead i would have to buy etc to use the 'k' keys.

Obvioulsy the toyota adapters 1&2 are of no use to the s'pro, as toyota starts from 1999 which is the 16 pin EOBD plug, being a toyota technician, i know when the adapter changed to EOBD 16 pin.
Unless i am misunder standing the s'pro s/ware.

Does any one know wether the old MT2500 worked on OBD on toyota's pre 1999, i must be missing a programe on my machine, my dealer tells me the programmes on the MT2500 (bricks) are all on the new range of equipment,s'pro etc etc.

      cheers andy

        Sorry Andy,
I didn't notice that you are in the UK I'm not up to date on the keys and connecters for your region. I will forward this thread to my counterpart in your area and have him try to answer your questions.

        Regards
        Jay

My Solus (US domestic) won't connect to UK market 99 Toyota Celica. I have no problem with later Toyota's. I was hoping after I upgrade/convert to UK software it would solve this but after reading this I'm thinking not.
I use 'k' keys, I use them quite often here in Ireland with my US domestic software to connect to Jap cars. I've the full set and if your ever stuck or want to use one I can loan them to you.

Hi, cheers, will bear that in mind.

The reason i ask is it is obviously an option on the UK machine requiring another adpater that is not listed and i dont know if the K key is the same profile as the S key, ie having a slot amongst the segments at the same place, meaning you CAN NOT fit a S key into the OBD adapter, this probably sounds all confusing, when i next plug into a car, i will take a screen shot and show on here and see what views i get.

In North America the "S" keys are for Mercedes, BMW, VW and Audi all other manufacturers will take the "K" keys. This should be the same for UK and Australia.
I will look into this and let you know.

right 'k' and 's' keys are different. S44 and K20 do the same but use different hardware (cable).

I don't believe the UK setup comes with any 'k' keys. It has a much larger selection of 's' keys.

Using my US Solus on a Nissian Primera or Note I have to scan it as a Sentra because the Sentra is the only Nissian offered in the States with a 4 cyl. Its been taking some creative thinking. The 1999 Toyota Celica is offered in the States with 1.8 but my scanner won't connect with the euro model.

US market or US made? I get the odd US market, mainly pick-ups or limos that have been imported. I get a a good amount of euro market Ford, Chrysler was selling some when they where Diamler (300, Liberty, Wrangler) so I see them every now and again and Chevy was selling the Aveo which I've a few I maintain too. I had a Daewoo Matiz today that was made for Chevrolet in Poland and the Opel/Vauxhall is covered in GM logos.

I bet the UK guys get more US market imports the us here in Ireland. We get lots of imports from Japan, tons and tons of Hondas mainly Civics.

I really don't want to give up my US market Solus I'd like to get the US/UK/AUS software but don't have the $$$ as times are tight!

Normally, if your scanner has UK version bundle installed you must not see any K keys at all. If it requires K-20 key it displays DL-16 + S44 OR OBD-II + K-20. K series keys are for US & Canada. S series keys are for Europe and Australia. If you don't care about troubleshooter you can get International bundle then you will need to buy some extra S keys, DL-17 cable to be able to scan Mitsubishis and Mazdas but not all of them.
Concerning Toyota OBD-I adapters you will need them when you going to scan ABS system on Toyota or Lexus(in USA) up to 2002 or 2003 (if I remember right).
