A little background first..... I used to be a professional mechanic 1975 to around 1992. Primarily Opel, MB, Porsche, and a little Ferrari etc.
I recently purchased a used MT2500 from my local Snap-On dealer to cover **MY** cars some of which pre-date diagnostic scanning, and the newest being a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.
My Snap-On dealer gave me everything he currently has for Domestic and Asian cars (what I currently own). The '96-'01 primary cartridge I have is used for my wife's 2001 Grand Am.
Today I planned to program two new "keyless entry" key fobs.
From the GM 2001 Grand Am / Alero factory manual:
"1. Install a scan tool.
2. Turn ON the ignition.......
3. In order to replace a transmitter, use the scan too Body Control Module Special Functions: Add/Replace Key FOB............"
The '96-'01 primary cartridge I have includes (not necessarily in this order):
Engine
Airbag
ABS
Transmission
But, there is no option for "Body"
Will I find that option for my 2001 Grand Am on a 2002 or newer cartridge, or is this a GM dealer tool option only?
If there is a domestic primary cartridge that will permit me to perform this procedure, perhaps you can direct me to one (year, part number, etc). Then I can decide if I want pay my local GM dealer $40 they quoted me to program the key fobs, or if I want to purchase another MT2500 cartridge.
(For anyone who is going to suggest I purchase a newer scanner.... It is not an option for me at this time)
