using the mt2500 for generic obd2

hi, im new to the forum. I have a mt 2500 scanner and trying to use it in generic obd2 on a 2003 lincoln ls. I have the domestic cartridge thru 2001. the book says to use the k-2a personality key but the scanner wont read the vehicle, it says "no communication". The scanner works ok with other vehicles such as a 1998 dodge pu and a 2001 ford diesel pu. do i need a scpeial cartridge or do i not use a cartridge at all in obd2 format? thanks for any info.

    Just a few suggestions.

    Hi Jarve,

Try a K-20 key if you have one. You shouldn't need one but what the hell? You should just be able to use the Generic function on the menu, however I don't remember what the 2001 software was capable of. Does it have a seperate Generic heading?

Can you identify it as a 2000 or 2001 Ford Lincoln? Will it let you? I thought in those days of older software that the Generic Data (just readiness monitors) is shown at the end of the data stream.

I doubt that 2003 LS is CAN, but if it were, you would need the CAN adapter, but probably not for generic.

At any rate, you may want to borrow another scanner to see if it can communicate.

Look at the DLC and see if any terminals are spread causing a conectivity /comm issue.

Let us know what happens Jarve.

    Bob

You will need a CAN adapter for that vehicle. That vehicle communicates to the diagnostic tool on the CAN network. I would just upgrade the tool rather than invest in that old technology.
