was the MT2500 ever offered with the capability of heavy duty class 8 engines? such as Navistar, Cummins, Cat, Detroit? we have a prolink which is a total joke and I have a brick for my sidework, all of our trucks are old enough for the brick other than a couple and i really do not see it feasible to purchase the modis or anything comparable to run simple diagnostic procedures on 10 yr old trucks any help would be great
MT2500 used for heavy duty?

I don't remember there being HD for the MT2500, and even if there was it wouldn't be better than an old Pro-Link, which should at least do HD Standard. The Pro-Link worked pretty good on the old stuff. What don't you like about it?

it constantly freezes, you cannot watch streaming data while starting the engine unless you have a battery charger hooked up, you have to spend 500+ for each individual engine platform, and thats providing you dont need an adapter such as you do for cummins celect and celect plus, and thats only if you can find a cummins dealer willing to let go of that software. and this isnt an old pro link its a newer one, the diagnostic capabilities are ok if you have the right cards but the operation of the system itself is a joke and the price of the tool for what it is is outrageous. Hell anymore for the price of a new prolink and the software needed for a mixed fleet you can justify buying a reman tuffbook with the software and cords loaded already, but the company had this thing before i got here and they cant justify investing more money on diagnostics because this thing works part time, also you are very limited to doing ABS without another 500 dollar card in opinion they are a rip offComment

That's a pretty good list!
Cummins has always been a problem, and probably always will be. The only way to do Calibrations or Bi-Directional Tests is with the Cummins Software. There are no aftermarket solutions, because the Right to repair Act has not hit the HD Market yet, and even when it does it is unlikely that Cummins will comply. Scanner software is something like an 80 Million dollar business for them, and they have no intention of sharing. Even on the new Nexiq iQ the Cummins coverage is limited to Codes and Data only.
If the Pro-Link is locking up, the cartridges are probably bad. Mine was doing the same thing. I ended up selling it cheap to a guy that didn't need one that often. Having to use a broken tool is frustrating. Unfortunately there aren't any cheap solutions out there unless you are just looking for basic Codes/Data coverage. If that's all you need then the new Pocket iQ is a cool little tool, but it sounds like you are leaning towards OEM software...and there is little comparison between OEM and HD Standard. OEM is much more complete.

actually i have found the best scan tool for most of the early elec engines in hd trucks to be experience and a volt meter, most of the early ecus were so poor at diagnosis the scanners were pretty much a trouble shooting tree with an lcd screen anyway, generally for what we have i am fine without it, but as time progresses and we start getting what everyone else is getting rid of the newer engines now will become ours, as far as the cards being bad, so far this year my international rep has exchanged 3 and i believe ours is the nexiq iq, one more question, would you know if the cummins celect software for a prolink would work on an ism? any help with this would be outstanding,
thanksComment

The coverage for Cummins is limited to Codes and Data only. The data stream is pretty large though. You don't need any special software to view it though. HD Standard is what you use to view it.

I just got a Pocket IQ this week, works pretty good for reading Cummins codes. Reads the regen engine codes, etc. Also connects to the instrument cluster, etc. Impressive for the cost.
Are there going to be any addons for the Pocket IQ? The equipment seems like it would be capable of doing it if SnapOn wanted to... A graphing function would be nice for an additional cost.
I'm also curious how the updates are going to be handled cost wise and possible feature expansions down the road.Comment
