Idle Relearn on Ford Escape/Mazda Tribue 3.0

Did an IAC Valve on an '01 Mazda Tribute 3.0 today. Damned thing would not idle down below 1200 to save its life. No vacuum leaks, cleaned throttle body, and cable was not binding. Even adjusted Positve Throttle stop to try that, helped about 100 RPM. Does Snap On have a relearn for this procedure, or better yet, does Ford/Mazda even have a relearn other than drive and idle time?

No relearn needed on those. I remember the 3.0 in the minivan had a leak in a sneaky pcv hose hard to reach near firewall. I suspect you have one too. Try the smoke machine if you have one. Once found, put your base idle stop back where it was.

Found out from my Troubleshooter that a low coolant level will also cause high idle for some reason. Customer declined new level sensor, so unable to confirm this fix.

Couldn't you try a "Keep Alive Memory" reset from the functions menu ? Would still mess up your fuel adaptives and maybe tranny adaptives though.

            Bob,

I did try this, but to no avail. The only thing I didn't try was the unplugged battery, touching both terminals together for XX minutes. Have not seen customer since 1st repairs were done, so must be happy with an idle of 1200 in park. Unless the computer has since compensated and relearned that new IAC.

Just curious, why did you change the original IAC ? Did you notice any scanner data pid with desired idle speed ?

                Bob,

The reason for the IAC was a code for IAC failure. Didn't have any driveability issues, customer just said light was on for quite some time. Also, do not remember PID data, as this was over 2 months now. I just remember that idle while I was doing basic testing underhood was around 900 or so.
