How many versions of the verus are there.

I am going to bid on a verus with 16.2 software on ebay and was wondering how many different verus models there are and is there anything to stay away from. What would you guys say top dollar is for a original verus with 16.2 that includes case, keys, scope leads and connectors.

Original Verus. Used a scanner cable and personality keys.
Verus Wireless. A little faster than the original, used a wireless scan module.
Verus Pro. Thinner, lighter, faster than the 1st two.
Verus Edge. Thinner, lighter and a LOT faster than previous versions.

Along the way there were a few different hard drives.
Can't help you on the pricing.

Don't buy from this guy. Hard drive took a **** in three days. Sent it all back like he requested and no more communication for 30 days till he waited to the last day to refund the money before Ebay had to step in. theliquidationplace is his title. Lost one day on the phone with snap on trouble shooting the unit and a month worrying about getting my money back

bigblockcutlass That's who I won the bid from. Now you got me worried. Where does this guy get all these snap on scanners from?

At least you got your money back, That's good for sure but the stress you was under was probably sickening.

I am having second thoughts about paying this guy now.

The scanner is updated with 16.2 software so that was what got me interested in it in the first place.

Is the hard drive the main problem these scanners have and if so if I was the clone the drive so I always have a back up can I just buy another drive reimage it and have it back up and running. Like all hard drives it will go out eventually.

BTW: What does the verus do that the modis doesn't.

I am now wondering if I should get a modis over the verus.

The Verus is a computer. It runs Windows XP. If you need a scanner in a computer, it's a good choice. If you don't consider less expensive options.

I don't need a computer just need a capable scanner with scope.

So would you say a modis would be a better choice and will the modis do what a verus does if the same version software is installed.

Does the modis have a hard drive or is it solid state.

I need something that will be trouble free for years like my MT2500 was. That old scanner still works to this day without a hiccup.

16.2 is the LAST update for the old Modis, then no more.
The touchscreen on a Verus makes it much handier to use
you can graph more pids onscreen at a time
with wireless internet in your shop, you can access help right at the car
you can add other helpful programs, video, articles to the Verus to make it more useful

If you don't need any of those advantages, then the old Modis is still a very capable tool with a better scope than any of Snap On's other tools other than the Verus.

The old Modis uses a CF card under the left handgrip.

                  Thanks Wheel.

Can you tell me if there is a good way to backup the data on the hard drive of the verus for when the day comes that the drive fails and turns this scanner into a worthless conversation piece.

About the only thing I worry about is the drive failing.

That is just one of the many reasons I took it upon myself to replace my drive with a solid state drive.
This post: http://productforum.autorepairdata.c...ead.php?t=3771 and its replies I think will answer your questions even if you aren't interested in replacing your drive, or may help you if you decide to.
Everyone who changed their drive had to clone it or save an image of it somehow and you can read of many success or failure stories to help you with any decisions you want to make. Please let us know if this didn't help you and I or somebody will try to answer any specific questions you may have.
