    Virus on Verus

Well it was bound to happen. I ended up with a variant of the Downadup or Conflicker virus on my Verus. Not sure how I got infected but this is a particularly nasty virus. I noticed a few times the message that "svchst.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" message would pop up with no obvious side effects. Last night I tried to update the IDS software on the unit and could not get the software to install. Several errors related to the NetFramework not found. I attempted to connect to Microsoft to look for a solution and it was like the web site was non-existent. I tried several anti-virus scan sites with the same result, could not open the web page. No problem with Google or other sites. This virus attacks and gets into the unit by sharing USB memory sticks and the "autorun" feature or over the internet via other network computers. After connecting an external USB stick to the Verus and then to my laptop, the Norton program on my laptop caught the Downadup virus on the USB stick.

I had to use another laptop to connect to the internet and get a Anti-Virus Program to then install on the Verus. I tried three different ones including AVG but most just install the shell of the software and then connect to the internet to retrieve the latest virus definitions which would not work. Finally Norton 360 worked for me and I was able to remove several instances of the virus.

I can once again connect to Microsoft and other Anti-Virus sites as it should. It remains to be seen what other problems will surface over the next few days.

    Virus

    Just an update.

I was able to remove the downadup or conflicker virus but it did some damage to my registry and caused me to loose the registration for several other programs I had on the tools. I was still getting error messages when booting up and I coudn't run, update or remove the IDS software so I gave up and did a complete restore. Had to call tech support to reactivate the unit and then install the SR1 and SR2. I did save all my original movies, screen captures but lost the history.

I installed Norton 360 and manually updated windows to SP3. Unit works good now. IDS even works properly now and was able to reflash an 06 F150 the other day.
