trying to set throttle basic setting on VW

my thoughts are that I need a VAG scanner but cant get one right now so I just need to make sure that it isnt possible to do this relearn procedure through the verus. I have seen it on other VW's but not in the menu for this one. its a 2001 beetle 1.9 diesel

There is no throttle body that needs a relearn on this TDI.

it is fly by wire so why wouldnt there be a throttle relearn and according to several other post there is a relearn procedure. My problem is the fans wont come on with the AC and when checked the fan control module I found that my 11v refrence on pin 3 green wire was grounded which according to the description is cause of a WOT or loss of basic setting. there are several confirmed fixes of the relearn fixing this problem just trying to figure out how to do it without a manufacture scan tool

sorry I have been corrected, I dont normally work on diesels and wasnt aware that there was not a throttle body on this vehicle. sorry for the confusion i wouldnt be asking for help if I didnt need it. if you have any tips on the cooling fan issue please feel free to post. thanks in advance

I have heard of TB Resets on VWs curing a condition of the compressor not coming on, but never the cooling fans. I'm not saying it doesn't happen....but I've never come across it.

Was the green wire grounded or just had no voltage on it? Just wondering if the cooling fan module was supposed to be making the 11V, and wasn't. If the PCM/TCM is pulling that wire to ground maybe you can find an input with the scanner that may be causing it. Just a thought.

it wasnt actually the coolaing fans in a since that they do come on when reaching operating temp and when they do so does the compressor but after the thermo switch falls below the temp everything shuts off again. even the verus does not offer but a hand full of pids for this thing and none of which are ac releated. but yes pin 3 was being pulled to ground by pcm

If you go into expert mode you will find everything in the VAG tool. Expert Mode can be a challenge to operate, but VAG is no different.
VW/Audi diagnostics are in a class by themselves. As you've noticed, the scanner operations are quite different from other car lines. They are a big pain in the butt if you don't do them all the time.

Yes. what Joe said. I have configured modules, recentered steering, programmed keyfobs etc using expert mode.

heres the fix. so after following several test procedures for testing the fan control module I couldnt come up with anything but we went ahead and replaced it on a whim. well that fixed my compressor issue. after that compressor was coming on and fans were cycling. 2 days later car comes back a\c not working and temp light flashing. it was a little low on coolant so I topped it off and checked pressures. this is the wierd thing the pressures seemed to be pretty good with 30\200 but the air was not cold and the low side line was not cold either. well after servcing it and to find it was only .19lbs low it seemed to work. very strange. so after a drive found it shut off again and my light was blinking. get back and have a code for temp sensor short to ground. replace the sensor with no real change but at this point realize my fans are not coming on unless the a/c is on which is completley backwards from when it came in the first time. after checking the thermo switch realized how cold the bottom of the radiator was. after removing the thermostat I looked in at the back of the water pump and while running noticed the impeller was turning at half the speed of the impeller shaft. all in all a new water pump and timing belt fixed it the second time. this was a pain in the butt but thanks for the replys and i find my self working on more and more VWS so maybe I will learn how to use the expert mode on it.
