    Generation 3 Verus

I figured that would get your attention.
While Snap On is going new scanner crazy, why not???

The most needed change? Make the wireless scanner module capable of docking with the Verus similar to how OTC did with the Pegisys! Why? 1. when you don't want to use wireless, you don't have to juggle 2 pieces of equipment and a usb cord. 2. The gen 1 Verus could stay powered up from the car while scanning. Not so for the gen2 Verus. If you are scanning cars all day, that might be a problem.
Sure, a guy can run a power cable from it to the cigarette lighter, but that's just one more thing to juggle, or perhaps lose in the car. A docked scan module could fix this.

There are some things done right on the Verdict that should be done to a gen 3 Verus.
For one thing, the “dock” for the Verus is anything but – it’s just an overpriced usb hub designed to hold the Verus and that’s about it. Relocate the video port and Ethernet port to a redesigned dock with a generous amount of usb ports – at least 4. And fix it to where
the Verus charges while sitting in it instead of having to plug it in separately.
This would be a lot easier than plugging and unplugging several individual cables.
If I am not mistaken, the Verdict also has a type of thumbpad that can act as a mouse.
While a touchscreen is fantastic, sometimes a mouse or equivalent has its advantages,
which could help the Verus owner.
It would be nice if Verus could use the Verdict’s wireless scope module in addition to
the onboard 4 channel scope, and if ignition abilities were possible with this wireless
module, it would sure overcome the problem of the ignition leads being too short on a test drive.

I think a dedicated button to instantly initiate recording, whether scan or scope would be
handy in addition to what is already available for that unexpected glitch that you are not otherwise set up to capture. Sometimes one doesn’t have time to wade through menus, especially on a test drive alone.

If there is some hardware limitation of the scope preventing ohms graphing, this would be the opportunity to fix it.
Longer record times on the scope would sure help, too.

Now for hard drive, processor, and memory. These should be Windows 7 adequate for when the industry is finally forced to leave XP behind. It would be nice to be offered options – how much memory, hard drive size and type (conventional vs SSD).
Hard drives being what they are, it wouldn’t hurt for them to be easily removable
so if one quit you could quickly install a backup and get back to work, or if your new update had glitches that wouldn’t allow you to fix what you’re working on, you could slip in a drive with the previous software and get back to work, giving Snap On time to come up with a patch while you work – kinda like could be done with the Brick and its cartridges.

These are just a few ideas for consideration – I don’t know how feasible they are,
but it’s something to talk about.

making it able to work with the current or a future wireless borescope
and battery tester wouldn't hurt, either.

I like the dockable scan module but I'd much rather get what you have working 100% before they change the thing!

When I dont have to pull out my workmates Solus Pro for *anything* I'll be happy!

I'll be happy when the dam thing is reliable, so I don't have the need to own 2 scanners, and one being just to check the reliability of the other.

Here's my list of priorities in order.

              1. Everyone is correct about reliability being top priority, and if necessary,
should come at the cost of anything else. Cool features and even coverage does you no good if the tool does not work

              2. Restore ALL the features 10.4 and later took away from the Verus.

              3. More complete pid coverage in the datastream of existing covered vehicles. I place this above bi directional controls because pids give you the direction to go to determine the problem

4.Isuzu and Suzuki and Subaru would be nice

              5. More bi directional on existing covered cars

              6. The hardware improvements mentioned. They are most likely already working on new hardware anyway, so we stand a better chance getting what we need if we tell them now.

                Verus 3

The Docking is a must, It will give us the option of a wired scan tool or wireless, and since most of the time the wireless doesn't work especially with Fords. I think this is the best option. I currently strapped some Velcro to the back of the Verus and S3 Module to attach them together and keep the USB cable attached, its a hassle having to haul around both units. And as for the battery have a Hot swappable battery would be nice while being plugged to the Vehicle instead of having to connect the AC power adapter to keep the Verus powered on, and Make the Battery easier to replace or swap. currently I need to apply leverage on the battery to remove it. The only one Problem is that we still paid too much money for this Verus and having to pay again for a newer Gen3 would be outrages. I Still owe more than 16K to SO Credit on the 1st gen Verus and the Upgrade to 2nd Gen including all the updates and accessories. When I had My Shop I got to write off these expenses but now like many other Techs out there we have to pay for these updates our self's. Our Bosses really wont provide you with any major hardware upgrades. Maybe as it is, they will only provide us with software upgrades but you realy need to kiss as to get it. Snap On should offer a Trade In Program for Current Verus/Verdict Owners who maintain their tools up to date, I think this would only be fare.

This is some good input ! A lot better explanation than mine why the wireless module should dock with the Verus, and a strong incentive to just keep my old verus and buy the wireless module if I want it.

I forgot about the battery issue. They need to either supply a 6 foot prybar or a stick of dynamite in each Verus kit to allow battery removal.

A generous trade in program would definitely be a plus. I would definitely be interested in trading up to a Verus as described in this post
IF they get the software right.

Actually, I'm not. But like I said in the previous post, I do agree
reliability and more complete coverage should come first and should be offered in any future tool they may come up with.

I suspect they are going to work on and come out with new hardware whether we want it or not. I would rather buy a tool that had features WE
told them we need rather than one that had features THEY think we need.
The same goes for the software and coverage that goes in the tool.

If we want or need something in a tool, be it hardware or software,I think we need to continue to speak out and encourage others to do likewise. We may not stand much chance of getting it if we do, but we stand far less chance of getting it if we don't.
