    Vanishing Vehicle History

Has anyone else experienced Vehicle History files vanishing? Since updating to 11.4 on my Gen I Verus I have lost several of them each following activation of the file and I suspect the cause may be in the method of then "Changing Vehicle" or something having to do with exiting.

I noticed immediately a difference in how it accepts changes such as customer name, mileage, etc. in addition to the appearance of a new screen stating it is "Loading Vehicle Records" following activation of that icon. It seems that in order for changes in some (or all) of the fields to be permanent that particular record must be "activated." But something is going on when exiting the scanner or vehicle as it happened again yesterday after pulling some fresh fault codes on a Lexus and I have become spoiled by the fact they are (normally) placed in the Fault Codes Presented area for that vehicle so I don't write them down and they are now gone.

I reported this to tech support just following the update because that is when it first happened & they did not admit to any known problems. I downloaded the 11.4 update last month and thought "Oh, maybe they fixed that" wishfull thinking I know and as I found out, the hard way, they did not.

To tech support I also voiced a desire to have published, with any new update, a list of changes other than the ones published in their Point of Sale flyers as I noticed a few nice updates that I have benefitted from with 11.4, it might also have helped me with the current problem I am experiencing. At this point I really don't have the time to spend or a vehicle history file to risk experimentation with possibly a new procedure to prevent this. (God knows we spend enough time figuring out what is wrong with the vehicles we're working on!)

Yes I have had the issues ever since the atlas upgrade... I think it is the way that we change vehicles or exit the scanner. Before it would save even if you just closed the scanner software but now you have to manually disconnect and it has saved the few I have done this way. The strange thing is it has also saved a few of the ones where i just exit. Seems like a glitch...

If you click change vehicle it gives you the option to save and exit

Yes, I've lost history at least 10 - 15 times in the past year. Verus is 1 year old.

I've never seen that! Although 11.4 did seem to eliminate the screen that almost always used to pop up stating the scanner must be exitied properly or something like that even though I had backed out of it and stopped communication each time.

Updated 1/27/12: Since I work on a lot of Jags what I have been doing to get as much vehicle info in the file is to start with "Component Testing" and then go to OBD Direct to get codes placed in that vehicle file. So today I activated a history file on an '06 Jaguar XJ8 I created about 10 months ago, went to OBD Direct and pulled a code, I then viewed the vehicle data and the new code was there. I noticed "OBD" was at the bottom of the screen, I hit "back", Home and then the Vehicle History icon. At this time the bottom of the screen changed back to 2006 Jaguar XJ8, I hit Home then the change vehicle icon, then Vehicle History and it was gone! At first I thought this might have something to do with switching to OBD Direct but I have lost Lexus & Mercedes files so that can't be it.

Hey Snap On what gives? What was changed? What is the correct sequence so we don't loose valuable data?

            Lost History Records

Thanks guys, I thought it was just me. I have noticed that same issue since 11.4. I also have the update done. Seems almost random as I often load vehicles just to see what was done before. I have started to save more records with more detail. I put the VIN in the "color" field. I often put details in that field as well.

I'll try to experiment with the lost files and post any revalations I find.

I think I am going to start a new thread asking Snap-On again....... to please give us some additional features that other scanners/pc based scan tools have that we don't.

That is not a bad idea although I'm certain there are some features we have that we are not aware of. I was pleasantly surprised to see some changes I did not even suspect with 11.4. One would think that SO would want to capitalize on additional opportunities to promote more sales as I am not always interested upgrading just to pick up new tests on more vehicles I won't see for years to come.

The area Sales or Tech Rep for Snap On would be the logical choice to make sure we are getting all the use we can possibly get from our diagnostic equipment and inform us of the addition of new features and improvemnets. Heck, I don't even get an e-mail to let me know a patch has been released. I have asked my dealer several times with no success, modesty aside I get the idea that I know more about the features of my equipment than my Tech Rep and without question my dealer who will freely admit he just sells them.

Again as I mentioned in the beginning, a list of the changes, additions or removal of features would be the least I would expect from Snap On. How about it

You might be surprised at how many of us want these very things you have mentioned here. Many times the deciding factor on me buying an upgrade for a tool - or not - has been the addition of a user - friendly feature rather than the updated coverage it offers. User - friendliness is a very big issue with me. I know when the original Vantage and its
updates were being produced, Snap On was a lot better about highlighting their new features, and made a lot of money from me that
they might not have otherwise as a result.
You can expect the reputation of your business to be no better than the cheapest item or service you are willing to sell. - Wheel

I have had similar issues since 11.4 but I never really thought about it starting in 11.4. Good catch!

It would be nice to know what the patches are for.

So, has anyone figured out how to restore vehicle history? Snap on? Are you out there?

Nothing! That's about as good a response as I got from phone tech support. After loosing another history file I called (furious) and when asked WHAT the correct procedure was to back out of the scanner and a vehicle it took three tries and then I was told "that's the way you do it", like I'm supposed to immediately forget the two unsuccessful attempts! Why won't Snap-On write up these procedures & changes? There have been no changes to my operation help instructions, gee wouldn't that be a novel place to put these changes!

My Verus doesn't like fords lately. States it's loading xxx number of autos, but their not all their and then they will come back. The number of cars in history is correct, but the ID is not there. Only started a couple of weeks ago and it's not all the time. Seems like it's only fords. Not sure what I did if anything.

My question is is there a way to delete history records besides going through them one by one?

It's been hit and miss over here as far as saving vehicles when the "change vehicle" tab is used. Happens to all makes as far as I can tell. It's getting aggravating, Keep a note book near by to write down any codes. I think this started happening after one of the service updates.
