SSD upgrade

OK about to upgrade my ram to 1gb in my gen1 and would like to also put in a ssd.

Can anybody post model numbers of drive that have worked for them successfully and also which cloning software they used and tips? I have read and searched the previous thread but would like and updated thread since ssd are more common. Thanks for any input!

I put in the Samsung 840pro 256gb. I had a local computer shop do the cloning and install. They charged me 100 for it, but to me it was money well spent in case something went wrong.

The verus start up is really fast and I am well pleased with the upgrade. I have the gen ii verus so I didn't add any memory

I too have had good luck so far with a Samsung drive - mine is a 500 gb
drive. I previously tried a OCZ drive but had repeated bootup issues after a time or two. Don't know if it was the drive or the cloning software or both. I use and recommend using a desktop computer to do your cloning.
My desktop has Seagate drives so I was able to use Seagate's version of Acronis to clone these. I used an older version of the software to clone the OCZ and the latest version to clone the Samsung.If you clone the drive, the latest version of Acronis should work. I recommend keeping your software on your original Verus drive and putting it in a safe place
"just in case." Also, I created a backup drive image, formatted a 32gb thumb drive to NTFS and put the drive image on it for safe keeping and put it in a safe place.

I used a crucial and got there cloning disk kit and it worked good. a first I took it to computer shop they couldn't clone it. that why I got crucial kit for cloning. Brad

ok just posting my findings for future people doing this, i did end up using the posted crucial drive.

at first i tried acronis cloning software but no dice, it wouldnt even boot the drive even with trying to "activate" drive. soo we went with paragon cloning software and used "raw" clone which took a while (50 minutes or so) but it booted right up without having to activate or anything.

Once the desktop was up when it was going to load the snapon software it would say "problem with authorization" and would not load scanner software or scope. This made us scratch our heads for a while so i loaded the old drive and still the same thing!!

So what fixed it? check the date and time, as soon as that was correct it booted right up! nice and fast. Very nice update to the gen 1.

i just copied my verus pro drive with dd. going to try ssd install soon i hope

picked up an ssd today. at this time dd is copying from my external drive to the ssd. I hope it works

is the SSD upgrade and memory upgrade the same on a gen 2 verus wireless? I can see no one saying what they have upgraded on this unit I want to do a SSD swap and do a 2 gb memory upgrade??? has anyone done this ?

Now that I've had my Verus pro more than a year, it's time to install the SSD. I used dd which is a linux comand line tool to make an exact copy of the original Verus drive. I booted Ubuntu from a flash drive on the Verus and plugged in an external drive. Extreme caution is in order when using the dd command because if you mix up the if and of your drive will be blank or contain whatever was on your external drive.

Basically get an external chassis for your SSD plug it in boot up your linux flash drive use a program called "disks" to identify the drives then enter a command in a terminal session that may look like "dd if=/dev/sdd of=/dev/sdc"/. After about 3 or 4 hours you will get a result. After that you can remove the original hard drive and install your SSD.

WOW, that is a LONG time! I used Acronis on a USB drive, and it cloned in twenty minutes.

never heard of acronis. dd is free , it is limited by the speed of the laptop i was using and the usb 2.0 drive. doing it on the verus took 16 hours. if both drives were usb 3.0 20 minutes would be possible.

fitted ssd in verus pro

hi I have just installed ssd on my verus pro I used acronis true image to clone the drive (that took about 45 minutes but fitting the drive only took about 10 mins) there are ten screws on the back they are all the same size take them all out the back comes away from the front, there are 2 sets of wires to un plug once you have done this put the back to one side, there are four screws holding the hdd in remove them turn it over carefully not to damage the ribbon there is a piece of sticky tape holding the connection to the hdd remove it unplug the hdd plug in your cloned ssd put it all back together. my verus pro now boots ready to use in 58 secs it runs much faster and 100% battery = eight and a half hours.

☆☆☆☆Don't forget .☆☆☆☆ You will have to add or run some kind of "trim software " After SSD install! regularly because winXP doesn't have that function. Win7 or win8 does. If you don't one day it's not going to boot up.
