PC Link No Connect

I used the patch when I was using 6.2. My understanding was it is to help the pc communicate with the Modis and i did. But I had comm with the modis already, I was already ticked that the tech rep told me that I would not be able to get it working with XP because you need XP pro.
To make sure that I understand... You are ok at the pc but you have not checked your settings inside the modis to make sure they are correct? These drips of info make it difficult to help. Maybe you should start a new thread with what your symptoms are and what actually is working. I will be happy to go through the Modis settings step by step, I was going to do that Friday for you but I saw the message that you had it working. Now that I read the post properly I see it was another person claiming he got his working without a router, I thought he was saying he got yours working, sigh. Transman

I am going to go borrow a mouse and keyboard so I can check out the settings in the MODIS.

I have everything on my laptop setup correctly, the network is live and my laptop is connected to it. When I choose "connect to pc" on my MODIS, I go to "Utilities"..select "connect to pc" a window appears momentarily then a different window appears saying "Server is not responding or device is not connected to the Ethernet. Please try again later"...

It will be a couple hours before I get the mouse and get my MODIS checked out. After that I will post again and let you know what happens....

I have a mouse and keyboard, I have looked at the settings and the only thing I notice is the IP on the modis 195.168.1.10 and the "help" says the MODIS is supposed to be 195.168.1.12......still does not connect...

Sounds like it has not sucessfully created a "partnership" with your laptop thru activesync. Make sure you have activesync correctly installed on the laptop. It should have installed when you ran the pclink setup. Is there a small grey or green circle in the bottom right corner of your task bar? Grey means it is installed but not connected, green means it is connected.

I spent another hour and a half on the phone with tech support. They went through all of my settings again and everything is set up correctly, it just will not connect.

They had me remove a program, Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1(KB886903), because it has some sort of conflict with ad hoc networking or networks in general. They did not realize there were other version of NET framwork so they are now researching if there is a conflict with the others.

I am pretty computer literate, can do web sites, take credit cards, use all different kinds of software, and I am surprised that this is so difficult to get going. Must be something really simple "we" are overlooking, or another as of yet unknown conflict....

I am about ready to give it back to them and live without it.

He is off for sure, you need net framework for many things that are not even network related. Do you regularly let xp update on the internet? There have been may updates to net framework as well as others. When you got to the end of setting up the modis, the last screen asks you to hit done... did the tech that was helping you tell you to hit the X at the top instead of hitting done? Transman
P.S. the problem is probably in the Modis, not the pc. Especially if it networks to something else.

I really do not know if they know what they are doing for sure. I have automatic updates set up, so I have had several updates when I have my laptop at home.

He said click done. I agree it is the MODIS but do not know what to check that they have not already checked. The pain is that I cannot deal with this except for in the evening or on weekends because my boss will get upset if I spend anymore time at work messing with it....

I can certainly understand your feelings and it is nice to have it working. Frankly, for the state of data exchange that it supports at this time, it is much easier to set your brightness button to save screen and save it to a memory card. Then you can walk over to your computer and look at the data. Down the road a piece, when you can send real time data through pclink, if they ever get there. Then it will be worth getting the thing working. Transman
