I am not going to dance a jig until I fire it up in the A.M.

Who says you got to dance a Jig, Just before you go drain yourself , next time write down what bolts you have left for the final stage of tightening stuff down, or keep a big funnel at the ready in an empty GL5 antifreeze container. Hope all is well now. -
All seems well so far. By the way, not sure who you think I am, now I am not sure you are what I thought you were.
I do not get stumped much, sure I tried something different, I am going to loose my A$$ on this one.
No spare parts, 3 sets of Cam bolts, 2 sets of Cam Guide Frame bolts, pair of axle bolts, 1 set of drive plate bolts, Phaser, 4 Valves, specialty tooling etc. etc.
By the way, is there a problem with my English? I ask a few questions, and you are quick to respond with comments that are not relevant to the Engine I am working on.
Sure, slightly bent valves are easy to find on solid lash Engines, this one is hydraulic.
There are no Cam Caps to remove to check for binding Camshaft, just one big guide plate that holds both Cams in place that VW sells a special sealant that cost me $72.00.
I did perform leak down test, and the valves sealed with a Brass punch and a Mallet. I just learned that they are that flimsy.
I ask a question about it running rough and ask about the Intake cam being advanced, your response is about head gasket leakage that I just replaced.
Maybe I am fried, tired, frustrated. So be it.
Here is a picture of most of the tools, and most of the waste of bolts. (Sorry do not have them all, I made a trash run sometime in the week.)

He who learns shite the hard way, knows well and prefers to minimize said method of learnage. Short temper on irrevalance. Must have been a problemos of the auto cam adjuster...wtp! Glad for you x, a survivor of fk drama again. No doubt in my mind who you are. You are me. A hard headed bird of same feather. Thays no kicking yo arse, you will prevail at any costs/effort and crying. Wipe ya tears, change bandaids, and lets do another one. You tha man now....hehehehehehehe XXX-Euro
We all have been thru hell and back. It's why I think there is no good excuse for messed up info. You don't do that to your friends. Ps...ought see what EricO is doing on YT!!!!! He fixing to be a millionare. The best work of anyone of the tube world. I shouldn't have brought it to he attention talking with The Great Northern Doctor about Googler Muny. He is 100% after his piece of the pie. Smart dude, Eric the car guy #2. I think we wasted too much effort on ungrateful beast doing such but perhaps a needed stepping stone to the good. I'm back to making more camera work and hoping for bigger and bigger 1099's next time. I need it to pay Obamoe.. Greasy.....
Yes GM has provided that PID data in their service manuals for many years now.
"Scan Tool Data Defintions" and "Scan Tool Data List" have been in SI since at least 1997!!!! and the newer consolidated "Scan Tool Information" has been around since like 2007-2009 range.
Searching "titles" for "scan tool" is something that I do probably everyday. It is indeed invaluable information, especially since its oftens much quicker than reading through the pages of system description and DTC information for an uncommon code or failure. Just go right to the chart and see what it "should" be.Comment

"Typical" scan tool pid values have been around since the early 1980's actually.
While the information was pretty sparse back then it has been around. So have scan tool data lists.
The information gets better and better with each passing year but the suppliers of collated data don't always keep up with the curve and we NEED THEM TO DO SO.Comment

Sorry Crossland about quick assumption of a head gasket issue because of the heat issue you mentioned running fine and letting it sit 20 minutes( for enough coolant to enter the cylinders to make it run like sh@t after start up), I was even thinking misfire codes 4, 5, 6 , like it was one bank of a V6 until I saw in your picture the 4th hole of inline 5. Definately looks like you did quality work and didn't reuse head or cam bolts .Definately a situation where it is too soon to try and inject any Inebriated humor into it.
Hope you get more use out of that awesome looking cam tool set . Probably can do other engines of VW, Porsche, Audi line with it besides .Comment

Do you remember when you got one of these with every software update ? This one is from 2005. Maybe it still gets published on line in PDF form ? Not sure. It was ok but not vehicle specific so you had to look thru a lot pages to get what was relevant to your vehicle. I don't remember there being an import equivalent. I had some VW books with some block value stuff, I'd have to dig to find them. If the OEM published the lists in the past then putting it in Pro Demand would be a nice touch.Comment

Theyve still got those, all PDF's , including import!

The software manuals have a lot of really useful information (if you've ever taken the time to read thru them) including theory of operation for a lot of the self tests, bi-directional tests and component functions. It's too bad that it's not in a more user friendly format, something with a search tool to find the component, parameter or PID that you're looking for.Comment

It's alright Witsend. I've been a bit testy with this one. Thought I had it Bingo'd with a Phaser. Ran great through test drives. Grandpa drive it for a bit. Went for an errand, no start with a rattle. Just pulled spark plugs and valve cover. Intake jumped advanced again by a bunch, no doubt about all Intake Valves this time.

That really sucks. Can you tell by a scribe mark if the hub of the phazer that bolts against the camshaft actually slipped on cam or sloppy chain could have jumped forward after failed hydraulic tensioner with stripped teeth bled down after a hot soak. It's alright Witsend. Angry Cylinder Head
Here is a look at one pi$$ed off head with 10 S shaped intake valves. Luckily, valve seats and guides are good.
Ordered everything under the sun new this time and again, (tensioner, chain guides, chain, gaskets, bolts, etc. Etc. )
The old guides looked new, so ASSumed the chain was also. Will see when I compare the old with the new. I hope I find a BINGO then.
Anybody want a box of one time used T.T.Y. bolts? I keep on adding to the box at every teardown.
This has finally reached the point that I am over being upset, I can only laugh, and try again.
