Some smaller and mid sized tractors do not have the ability to display a fault code. Just a MIL. Some of these MILs were associated with performance symptoms, some not. Lots of times the presence of one fault code would put these tractors into de-rate mode.

Seems to me awhile back that some original Modis had Heavy Duty Truck coverage. What happened to that?
If you pay the 3K for the basic Nexiq tool (that does look impressive )and then use up your 10 free sessions or trial period time runs out and then you basically just have the equivalent of a Heavy duty generic OBD 2 , with data pids and graphing ability for trucks but need ABS, body and more and start buying those CDs until you have the equivalent of $15K invested for the fully loaded set up, for that kind of money are you basically getting the entire OE shop manuals and estimators built in along with the bi directional diagnostic software? If the OE shop manual and estimator is not included , I just see it as OE Ransom some ware for the aftermarket , so for $12K less I would spend for a Chinaman 908CV, it would take a lot of putting up with frustration, and disgusting Fails from a Gong Nam Style Scanner (which already has the bi directional software on it for me to go the more expensive OE route if I don't actually specialize in truck repair or at least specialize in particular brand of truck and they don't include the complete shop manual and estimator aren't built into the software

The first time I logged into the Repair Connect I used my lap top. Which was great, I could access the information on the lap top and use the Pro link at the vehicle to run the tests and check data. Today I tried again to log into Repair Connect with my lap top and was denied but I could log in with the Pro Link. It works a lot better to have your repair info separate from your scan tool. The Pro Link screen is too small to make much use of wiring diagrams and other info. The Repair link Info is limited to the info required for each particular code (component information, tests, schematics, location) and not the complete vehicle. Which I think is what you would get if you had a subscription to Mitchell Heavy truck. The Heavy Truck subscription is bit pricey. If you want the info only the medium and heavy truck are two spate packages. By the time you price that you may as well get the complete package with the Shop Management and everything else. $300 plus per month.

There has been a big push by equipment manufacturers to promote the "all-in-one" concept. There are times when that is "handy" but as you say, the screens are too small to make much sense of things like wiring diagrams.
Then there is the problem of zeroing in too closely to see the big picture. How many times have we struggled with a vehicle, then take a step back, go have a coffee, return thinking beyond the immediately obvious, and considering the overall picture and Lo-and-Behold, the root cause is not where we expected it to be.
The all-in-one, zeroed-in, concept only works some of the time. Larger screens and all the information allow for the big picture to be seen.
Each individual "system", on any vehicle, is NOT a stand-alone system. They are all a part of the bigger whole.

Looks like it at least offers a HDMI port you can attach a good size monitor or TV to it to see the bigger picture. Hopefully hook up to any Hong Kong Phoohey that has a HDMI input, and not require the purchase of some optional extra cost special proprietary HDMI display unit cart assembly for it to work

I got my access problem worked out and can now get the Repair Link on my laptop again. Seems I was trying to log into the old ShopKey truck repair program and not Pro Demand version.

Know your old stuff ? Can you name this engine and it's application ?

Yep !! A '54 F100 Y block. I was a little disappointed though, I thought I was going to see a flathead when opening the hood. I guess '53 was the last year for that.

Anyone run into a diesel that some one put DEF fluid in the fuel tank ? What was the damage ? I might have one coming in, 14 RAM 6.7. I gotta believe that this happens more often, they gonna have to idiot proof it soon.

Hey Witsend, If you use the search tab that's in the second header bar, next to the "members list" and "quick links", enter your search word and it works. probably always has, I never tried it before.

Thanks Bob, Never really tried it before you called my attention to it , but tried and it seems to work .Tried the main one above it in the tabs on top with go button above it still doesn't work and says I'm missing a security token.I'm thinking the DEF Fluid in the fuel tank didn't damage anything except the pocket book of the owner to flush it all out and refill fuel tank

I haven't experienced this directly yet at my shop. I did take Ford Powerstroke class 6 months ago and they posted images of DEF contaminated fuel components. Didn't look good. I would be ready to tell customer extensive fuel system damage is possible. The extent of the damage may not show up until months later. Once customer is aware of that I would start with the basics ie. drain fuel tank, flush fuel lines, change fuel filters.
