I think it is basically hardware wise a Nexiq Pro Link IQ. For about $2500 off Amazon You can buy the Nexiq Pro Link IQ unit that comes with 30 day trial software, but you need to buy all the individual manufacturers software , and connectors ala cart separately and it could add up big time$
Since I'm not a dedicated HD truck stop and only just occasionally see a commercial vehicle, I would be looking at something cheaper, kinda hit or miss, but has dedicated software you can update for a year, won't time out and not be able to go boom boom long time

The Pro-Link Ultra comes with 10 free OEM sessions on about 20 different systems (OEMs). That's worth the price of the tool alone I think. The way I understand it, if you but an OEM subscription thru Snap On there is no expiration on it. The standard level tool software has no expiration. The tool seemed pretty impressive on my first try.Comment

How could 10 free OE all system scans be worth the price of the tool unless you are hitting them $1500 a pop?The Pro-Link Ultra comes with 10 free OEM sessions on about 20 different systems (OEMs). Yeah, But you don't have the luxury of doing the 10 free OE all system scans over a period of a couple years , they likely need to be completed within a 30 day trial period? The tool cost around 3G. 20 X 10 scans, $15ea. Plus unlimited use of the generic side of things.

Does the $3K for the unit include all the specific manufacturer adapters ?
If you bought the thing fully equipped with all 14 software CDs and all the adapters it's like way more $ than a Verus, so I'm figuring for that kind of money< I would hope it would include the full factory shop repair software and parts estimator built into it besides just the diagnostic software and connector views.

No expiration date on the 10 free as it was told to me. Use them wisely. Every time you disconnect, one expires. The 15Gs Elite includes some life time OE coverage (NO Updates but the software is yours). Not sure why you would buy it like that unless you knew you were going to use those software packages. If You had a fleet of say Macks or CATs or Navistar, then purchase that package with what ever ABS they're spec'd with.Comment

I hope that is the case and the software CDs can be bought individually as needed for $500 a pop and will have everything on ONE CD THAT YOU NEED to cover all the systems of one particular truck brand that you happen to work on once in awhile, but I'm guessing It won't work that way it's all split up into repair CAT-agories and need at least 3 that you have to get need to cover the systems of one brand of truck. If you opt to get just one CD to get er done it be $800 separate for one you got to have. But Hey, you can buy all 3 on special for $1500.No expiration date on the 10 free as it was told to me. Keep in mind that the medium and heavy duty truck information is much different than light duty material. They are not mandated to provide it to the aftermarket like they are for cars and light trucks.SureTrack Community Administrator, Diagnostics forum Administrator.Comment

Definitely seems like something that would take committing to specializing almost completely to HD diagnostic specialist to see good return value for the money. For Ma Pa auto repair shop that occasionally repairs a medium or heavy duty truck to commit thousands $ for licenced OE HD diagnostic software.By the time you start to see a return for the tool the software needs updating.Keep in mind that the medium and heavy duty truck information is much different than light duty material. Seems like a Hit or Miss Chinese 908 CV with an included J2534 and most makes covered would be a way more viable choice for a shop that doesn't specialize solely in a certain make of truck especially if they already have a commitment to a Verus Edge. Maybe it would make sense To put a Nexiq app on the Edge and be able to purchase a sublet-ted 24 hour OE subscription for the truck you need to repair that day?

Not very often thankfully.Work on semi's ? Been there, done that, 20 years ago. But maybe I can help with few builders.
couple years ago I changed out a starter out on a 2011 Freight liner Cascadia in the dead of winter at a the Tollway OASIS near me. Froze my butt off . Must have been about 8 wires attached to each stud of the starter solonoid a few inches from the frame rail and I think a couple might have ended up Einey Meiney Miney Moes.

I've had mine for a couple months now, and love it. I don't see a lot of medium and/or heavy duty work but I do see more and more tractors having emission related problems. Being in a rural area lots of my customers are farmers and ranchers. The newer tractor models being released are jam packed with tier 4 emission related modules. The operating system is not SO, but anyone who has decent time behind a regular scan tool will pick up on how to run the Pro Link Ultra really quick. I charge $100 just to hook up to a piece of equipment, and the $100 an hour diagnostic clock starts too. I've already paid for half of the tool. I'm really happy SO has decided to service this segment of the industry.Comment

Thought the newer tractors already have on-board diagnostics and displays the trouble codes for the operators ( at least the 2011 Freightliner Cascadia did) so charging the $100 just to hook up the tool without starting any real diagnostics would be a real tough sell, if the customer is already showing you the codes displayed on the dash that He or She wants you to diagnose.I've had mine for a couple months now, and love it.
