Need a new use for your smoker ? I had a carb issue on an EZ GO golf cart. Before putting the bowl back on and installing, I thought I should check the float height and make sure the needle seats properly. Smoker to the rescue, the EZ GO has a low pressure fuel pump, probably less than 1 PSI. So I could verify the float height and needle sealing off.

Baffle isn't the issue. Gauge reads 1/4 tank because there is gas still in the left side of tank while right side is empty. May have it figured out. Waiting for the customer to run a tank through it. Will report back. Thanks for taking time to contribute.

Still Baffling never the less .Maybe something weird When you tighten down the tank straps are missing some funky spacer sleeves?) the tank literally gets squeezes too much, warps and the pickup tube angles up off the bottom?

You (we) need to end this thread and start new ones for interesting/ new stuff like this. Too hard to find topics and where you were this way.

Anyway, how does this help verify float level? I'm curious.

I could verify at what position the float had pushed the needle into seat to stop the flow by watching for smoke and looking at the flow gage. The needle on this carb has it's own spring so it's almost a 2 stage process. It was a bit of a stretch but it's a use other than checking for leaks on Ford 4X4 vacuum hubs. A flow meter could be useful thing to have around the shop.

Maybe start a "New Thread" for each new one. Then they will be self contained. Of course some of these questions could be asked in the actual Community so that they're available for other members who may not be on the user group forum.

Yes Bob, I see. I admire your creativity. But, that would require disassembly to see this estimation. If your bowl has a drain nipple or hole, a small tube to it, held alongside when open, would be much more accurate. For what your suggesting, I usually just blow down the feed line and turn it upside down. The float should be pretty much parallel to bowl edge when it seals. ( I suspect you probably already know this).

Would have been nice to have back when we used to fix the vw/audi door locks wouldn't it? Be well.

Definitely. That way anyone can see at a glance if there is any new, interesting topics.

Greasy, you always find new ways to play with your toys!
I've tried and tried, but can't seem to fix stupid!

Time for "Name That Problem "

I put up 2 scope shots a before and after. Name the Make and the problem and part replaced.

Could it be a multi-strike ignition coil on a Ford-??

You're correct about the Ford multi strike, but the coil is ok. High voltage, short burn time = large plug gap, or in this case the center electrode is just M.I.A. Broke off inside the ceramic. I think it made a clean escape through the exhaust. It actually was only showing misfires (cylinder contribution problems) when the engine was slightly loaded at about 45 MPH in 4th gear. Champion plugs !?

I'm curious, In the bottom half of your screen showing the current and the original coil saturation, then the second and third current ramps (???), WHY are there oscillations in the first bit of the second two ramp ups-??
I havn't seen many Ford multi-strike ignition systems. Some vehicles give me a rash, Fords just a mild one (LMAO)
For comparison, what would a normal Voltage and Amperage look like-?
I understand what you're saying about the plug. You are measuring the coil voltage and amperage though.
I think I'd rather have the solid metal Champion plug instead of the original design.......That was one of their "Better idea`s....LOL

                              Those champion plugs are garbage

I think that the "saw tooth" on the first part of the second and third amperage ramps may be the result of trying to charge a coil that hasn't totally dissipated it's original charge. Notice that it's not present in the first ramp where the coil has been completely discharged. Probably why it's not present in the first screen shot either. Trying to jump the large gap uses up the entire first charge. I spent a little time researching this and found this older Motor article on Scanner Danner's site. Still a good refresher on ignition testing theory. https://www.scannerdanner.com/media/...itionstudy.pdf According to the article you should be able to spot a lean cylinder by looking at the primary ignition voltage. Gotta give that a try tomorrow.

As far as plug choices for 04 to 07 5.4 three valve engines. Only Champion, Motorcraft or Autolites are available locally. Not much to pick from.
