I had the intake off of an 09 Enclave 3.6 D.I. At 70,000 miles check out the back of the intake valves

Now With direct injection the manufacturer can't blame the valve deposits on the customer not using a recommended top tier gasoline, just the sh@tty engine, crankcase breather systems, and over optimistic oil change intervals of 7500 miles or more. A quart of oil and a pint of antifreeze consumption every 1500 miles seems kind of the norm for the 3.1 and 3.4 , so why would it be a surprise on a 3.5 ,3.6....lol , with conventional fuel injection the gasoline used to clean the oil and blowby scum off the backs of the valves, guess there's new life for Ye Old Ford Walnut Media Blaster. I had a 2008 VW Passat that I just made sure the valves were completely closed and had at it with a dental pick and various tools with intake off and blew the stuff out, way better than triing to Sea Foam the intake which by the way can cause hydrolock damage if not careful. The stuff in the photo still looks molten

A bad egg
Greasys, am i a bad egg?
Ya think tha police should have the ems standing by when they gotta arrest someone not very healthy looking? If you not very healthy, wouldn't it make sense to not fight with all of em? You can put ya words in the newspaper and reach moar ears....lower risk for knot on ya head. Is most people just plain not un-stupid?
Bout the only actual power police have is to arrest somebody. The man in the black dress has the real power. They can't not do much w/o axing him 1st. Police now days are so scared of you, you gotta really try to keep em calm.
Oh yeah, my 03 dakota 3.9 no comm turned out to be smashed crank sensor red and black wire between engine and trans bell housing. Think we have killed the transplant computer. I have comm now, it runs, but badly. The temp gauge goes to hot with sensor unpluged. Have 5 volts between the two wires. Guess we try another box on it next week. I tooka picture but camera is at shop.Member of Klunker's Corporate, Land of the Great Scarples, Meat Rocks, Footsticks & Spray.Comment

Witsend;
""over optimistic oil change intervals of 7500 miles or more. A quart of oil and a pint of antifreeze consumption every 1500 miles seems kind of the norm for the 3.1 and 3.4 ""
You are DEAD NUTS ON TARGET with the extended oil drain intervals.
The quart of oil and a pint of antifreeze every 1500 miles isn't normal for any of my customers with the GM V6's, (or any other makes/models or 4-cyls) but they're also maintained and in for oil changes at SENSIBLE time & mileage intervals. When they're in I encourage people to do an oil change and something, then an oil change and something else, then an oil change and something else again.
Very often they ask ME what should be done and nothing has been NEGLECTED and all they need is a basic vehicle service, checking lights, wipers, lubing doors & hinges, checking and setting tire pressures.....oh....and changing the oil & filter-!! LOL
THAT way all the MAINTENANCE gets done and spread out over a period of time so it's smaller bites on their wallet and yet all the various systems on the vehicle get attended to in due time.
If the oil gets changed at SENSIBLE times & mileage, valve guides don't wear out and allow EXCESSIVE build up of carbon as seen in Bob's pics. I've seen MUCH WORSE than that but this one sure isn't looking pretty-!!
Hey Bob, is it time to start encouraging the old fashioned "Coke Valve Jobs" again-?? LMAOComment

Weather is back to normal here. Had to warm up me ride this morning. Really was missing the snow and it looks like its here to stay now. Can get out the foot sticks and go have some close encounters with Mr. Bullwinkle.

the new catch phrase " that cows already been milked, the only thing left is to scrape up the S__t" As in when someone wants to bring in an alignment after they already changed the ball joints and tie rod ends. Nope, not here at that price.Comment

If your a mechanic this is one of the happiest sights in the world, SUCCESS !!!! PhewAttached FilesComment

???? What? Them pictures of the coked valves with the shiny black bubbles remind me of diamonds in the rough in the making. As a Double Visionary, I think all you would need is to pour a gallon of pure lacquer thinner in the tank and drive the GM at WOT for 10 miles to clean the coked up valves, every 70k.@ Witsend...it looks like inside the catalytic converter...the honeycomb
and When the cats are clogged up solid at exactly 140,020 miles, you take off the converters and soak them in laundry detergent overnight, then reverse flush the diamonds you wholesale to Zales for chocolate engagement rings, but you got to give Scottie Kilmore 20% of the proceeds.

""Phew"".....There's an understatement-!! LOL
You're right. It IS one of the happiest sights in the world.
Can't flat-rape that time outta the book-!! Just gotta add it on as an "incidental", but the SUCCESS is better than the other options so the customer should be HAPPY with that success.Comment

As far as getting broken bolts out with an easy out that is an awesome sight. I've welded nuts onto the nubs of broken bolts on one side or the other and was able to unscew them without drilling using my $125 Harbor Freight wire feed welder. If it doesn't work at least you hope the thermal shock might have helped to weaken corrosion bond and soften the bolt temper before drilling and triing an easy out on it.
