I gots one for ya. A 2008 Chevy Cobalt bought at auction. Numerous issues but it would start after extended crank. Had P0336 stored and current code. I back probed the crank sensor. Looked ok but did notice the voltage not quit dropping to Zero. Replaced it, same thing, even probing at the ECM. Then I checked the component info. A 2008 2.2 should have a 58X signal with a double for syncing. I got a 7X. Hmmmm ? I check component info for different years. A 2006 has the 7X signal. Some one put the wrong engine in here. That explains the second ECM laying on the passenger seat, was already programmed with the correct VIN and software. Just a FYI, these engine will run with crank sensor unplugged.

I finished my first ever Deutz diesel overhaul. A success, it powers a small Volvo wheel loader. They tipped it on it's side, it kept running until the lack of oil at pickup tube got to it. A timing belt engine, I got the alignment pins for the timing, similar to other engines to align the cam and crank.

Any trouble finding service info ie. torque and dimension specs? Parts? Some of the farmers around the shop here had Deutz powered combines at one point. Big air cooled V8s, sounded great. I knew nothing about repairing them, figured the Germans kept all that info under lock and key LOL. Good job btw, I'm sure customer was happy.

Good Catch Bob. The flywheel, or crank pulley and crank sensor transferable from old motor?

I had the machine shop here get the specs I needed, they also got me the alignment tools.

The cool thing about the 2.2 Cobalt is that the older model used a 2 wire crank sensor and the newer ones used a 3 wire. I was surprised that it even picked up a signal and didn't knock the end off the sensor or something. Sensor location is the same.

THAT WAS A GOOD FIND.I deal with auction cars all the time and some of them can be a night mare do to not knowing past history.

So you basically actually gonna pull that wrong salvage yard motor , yank the crank and gonna transfer a 58x reluctor wheel from another crankshaft core to the present engine? Is the Cam reluctor, and injectors, etc identical between the older and newer 2.2. I probably would pass on doing it unless it was just a matter of a different style vane on a crankshaft damper at the front or a different flex plate at the back.
Might as well at least change the waterpump, and skimpy drive chain , crank and rod bearings while you got the turd all apart.
I remember putting a 2005 Cobalt 2.2 engine in a 2004 Cavalier because the water pump chain was broke. It would start and run ok but over heat. With hose off at the back I was able to determine that the waterpump impeller wasn't turning .

The Hollander system probably said the interchange was good, the fine print said "must change crank shaft" he hee

                    '72 land cruiser.

Had a '72 Land Cruiser towed in with complaint of no start and no brakes after sitting for a year at least. The no start was an ignition module in H.E.I Dist. in the 350 Chevy Engine transplant. No brakes were leaking wheel cylinders. Special ordered all 8 of them. While bleeding the rears, seemed to bleed fine since there was a bleeder open. went to bleed fronts, noticed rear reservoir had emptied. Fluid running out of Left Rear Drum. Long story short, Centric forgot a couple parts. Pic. 1 is of the old one apart, pics 2 and 3 are of all that it was assembled with. Now special order another one.

                      Nice one X.

New product idea.. I'm gonna call it Auto-Walk. It's a sonar warning system that will be built into your next generation smart phone. It will warn you by buzzing and/or vibrating before you walk into traffic or a large stationary object when you're busy chasing imaginary animated characters with your smart phone. Imagine, no more walking into light poles or mall fountains because texting has you distracted or some strange looking animation just popped into your screen. Hmmmm?

Hey Bob, that might not be a bad idea if I'm walking behind a nice looking gal and am distracted while testing out my new android endoscope.USB camera. Could prevent me bumping into her and getting a black eye , and broken phone

From what I heard , after a certain model year Ford PATS became a real PITA for immobilizer functions requiring Incode and Outcode and you need to be a licensed locksmith or some NASTF certified security system specialist that has passed a background check.

SUCESS after freeking out not getting this escape to start after a few tries, I did a parameter reset, then the keys program and it worked. I'm Not that computer savey so every time I do one it's a cross of the fingers when the key is turned. Now if I did it all the time instead of 1 every few months I'd have a better feeling about it.

Cool, What did you use ?Did you do the Ford PATS key security access and programming with a Snap On Scanner, use a Pass Through Device with a subscription or programming device like a CK100?
