On these I like to use the thread saver kit, it has a soild black insert threaded internally and externally with ridges along the top of the outer threads that you use another tool in the kit to expand and it bites into the head locking it in place. I also use some red Loctite for extra assurance.

Mac tools has a Kit to repair those spark plug issues, 100% success with it!

The Ford Triton Engine Insert Kit, No. 39300, from Mac Tools allows technicians to replace damaged spark plug threads without the expense of removing the engine head. After application...

Glad the Dorman one worked for you Greasy! The link might not be the kit we have as this one says does 3 valve? I Will get the part # tomorrow, most shops in our area send the blow plug Fords to us! Work is work!

Thanks for the link Miles, I think I might invest in something like that for the future. How long on average does an install take ?

          May need a life line

I have another "bought used" hot rod with a piss poor running issue in the shop. I am not familiar with this engine, (I always see the tubular intake runners). It has Opti Spark and no M.A.F. Took me an hour to find the P.C.M. and data link connector under passengers floor board. Tried all I can think of for I.D., either get no communication or N/A on all pids in data stream.

Ignition wave forms look great. Checked both O2 sensors, right is stuck at .2V but will go full rich with propane. Left is stuck at .4V will not change with vacuum leak, or propane enrichment. Changed it, still the same. Used a pyrometer on header tubes, Right bank are fairly consistent just under 400. Left bank is all over the board between 190 to 280. I know my issue is in the left bank.

Customer brought it in at 6:00, messed with it for a couple hours. I think I may be dealing with a shorted injector, will deal with it tomorrow.

I would like some help with the possible identification of the engine, the P.C.M. looks like the old Quad driver setup.

have you tried 91 Camaro ? Intake doesn't match though. Checked injectors with the scope ? Impala SS or Caprice intake ?

Worldwide supplier of automotive hand tools, toolboxes, power tools, electronics, and shop equipment. Mac Tools defines quality, innovation, and service.

This is the kit we use Greasy, like they say about an hour to repair one hole. Comes with an air popper that makes sure valves are closed then you make sure piston is a couple of inches down. We use a piece of 5/32 vacuum line on the blow gun to remove as many shavings as possible from cylinder. fast and permanent repair.

Crossland, does the PCM have any numbers on it? I wonder if that engine is a GM performance crate engine? Intake doesn't look familiar at all.

Craig, that is some form of an LS engine, prob out of corvette or cam/firebird. What happens if you try generic on the scanner?

I don't believe there is any Generic selection for OBD1scanning like there is for OBD2. I see the Wiki pic of the LT1 set up for 1993 looks the same to me. The 1994 and 1995 Camaro PCM looks way different than the one in the hot rod, so I would probably try to select vehicle as a 93 Z-28 Camaro or vette after I view an image of what a 93 pcm looks like.

crossland, looks like an early vett. eng to me. Had a few if these pains with your gut feeling, sorted injectors. THere is supost to be something in the internet the owner found and bought the injectors from their. I tried factory oem, wells, standard and for some reason kept shorting out. try maybe 92-95
                      or even late 80's
I've tried and tried, but can't seem to fix stupid!

After all the parts that truely fail a visual inspection and test out of range have been replaced , old Ratty OBD1 GM products eventually make Die-agnostic-ians out of all of us! (with the emphasis on" Die and Agnostic." If there really is a God , then please take take this Cup (of Sh@t )away from me"

Thanks Miles, now that I see the picture, the intake looks familiar now. (Looked odd without all the **** around it.) Entered the info this morning and received a data stream. Fired it up and it ran pretty good. About 5 minutes later started to stumble, switched to open loop, Right O2 flat lined at .7, Left at .5. Slowly got worse, then all pids went to N/A. (Just like some tries last night.) #7 header tube was the coolest so I ohmed Injector. Found it a .8 ohms. New set of Injectors, runs like a champ.

                          Thanks all.

Those injectors were born to fail, the fuel passes the windings for cooling I suppose. But when you try to clean them the insulation can be damaged by the cleaner and short them out, maybe just regular fuel over time can do them in! Nice fix for you.
Installed a blend door repair kit in a 2001 Grand Cherokee today, a Dorman kit that required cutting! OUCH! Customer liked the one hour repair charge over the seven to pull dash, this was no clunker either. I was impressed on how easy it was to do and a better fix than installing plastic back in. You lose dual zone but at least you got heat!

Greasy, I got this tool to repair one that blew out the repair insert. It looks exactly like the one Cruisin has from Mac but this is the actual company that makes it. It is a super slick well made tool and hasn't let me down yet.
