So I've found quite a few gm airbag load tools on eBay. But I'm wanting to know the difference between the j38715 and the j38715a. I assume the "a" is the newer version but what does it do that the other doesn't? Any one know anything about these tools? Merry Christmas.

Re Mercedes with 91 computers
Very cool cars to drive if you are a technician enthusiast and can do all the maintenance and repairs yourself and still afford even the parts
RE GM AIRBAG LOAD TOOLS
More GM's in the junkyard than any other make, so you could remove an air bag and a clock spring pigtail. I would bring some long speaker wire to splice to the clock spring pigtail connector cut off with the junkyard airbag , from a distance test the resistance of the junk yard air bag with a DVOM and write it down. Could be chance the bag could actually deploy, but if the DVOM actually does deploy one , I would position the junkyard air bag and consider it good fun to launch one or two through a moon roof or something. Write the resistance down and save the airbag pigtail connector and make your own load tool like you do when you Bypass a GM Passkey , and let us know the resistance you measured, If you buy the GM load Tools instead you can measure the resistance and let us know what it is, since the factory manual doesn't list the spec in most cases LMFAO.Last edited by Witsend; 12-16-2015, 06:26 PM.Comment

With a TWENTY YEAR difference between engine and chassis, the F-100 would have just as many issues. Heck, the 87, 88 & 89 exhaust manifolds for a 302 in pickups are all different, each one with a slightly different angle for the Y-pipe to mate up to. Customers wanted used manifolds instead of new (price). They'll bolt onto the heads but the Y-pipe bull rings won't stay sealed even if you can get them to stay sealed in the first place. On some, just getting the Y-pipe flanges to connect in the first place was a bear.On a side note: I never thought the later (1989) engine transplant in the '69 C10 was going to be this much of a bear. Nothing fits, probably would drop right in if it were a Ford F100. Way too much work dropping a G.M. 350 into a G.M. truck. Go figure. Right now I am trying multiple exhaust manifolds.
As Rodney Atkins says; If you are going through hell, keep on going. You might get out before the devil even knows you are there.

As for Chevy, a 1967 Vette 327-cid, 350-HP bolts right into a 1963 Nova-SS very nicely-!!Comment

THAT kind of CR@P is as smart as a bag of hammers-!The new Mercedes boasts 91 computers in it's new models !! It's strange what some people consider progress, I would consider it a major breakthrough if you could get it down to 2 or 3. 91 computers on one network according to the ad. So if one crashes the whole thing goes down ? I thought good engineering was when you could make one thing do five jobs, not needing five things to do one job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq_-YKoGDaw
They "claim" they're sooooo "superior" because they can engineer a very convoluted system that works...."for a minute" (to quote Ron White-!! LMAO-!!
Engineering 101..... the more complicated and convoluted any system is, (not just automotive), the more problems that WILL arise.
The reality is, these convoluted systems are actually INFERIOR contrary to the advertising and hype.Comment

Finally found a set of manifolds for the '69. '88 Camaro manifolds fit great around the later model valve covers. Right side outlet is far enough away for wires to run.

solving under body exhaust clearance issues
Well if you run into more clearance problems...Finally found a set of manifolds for the '69. '88 Camaro manifolds fit great around the later model valve covers. Right side outlet is far enough away for wires to run.

Yeah Greasy, 1988 manifolds.
This owner has a history with this truck, that is why I am taking everything slow. Plan on absolutely no issues when it fires off for the 1st. time.
He came by a week ago with a photo album of his time at Guantanamo, Cuba. He brought it back from there.

You are a well loved guy Bob. I only got a one tray of powder sugared Italian Cookies from a customer of mine and my wife brought to Cousin's party and so far No reports of Moctezuma's Revenge, so I guess I had at least one satisfied Customer.Does your shop get deluged with baked goods and cheese and sausage trays from vendors and customers this time of year ? They set up a table in the shop with the goodies this year. I called it, by 3:30 it was my new work bench.

YES !!!!! It's like an early Christmas present ! I got the 13 Tundra that was getting skippy at 80 MPH figured. It was the crank sensor. The Dealer couldn't get it. They say tranny, nope. I got no waves to show you, it's about impossible to back probe without damaging something. There is much to be said for the wiggle and tap test though.Comment
