I know what you mean Dodge90, changed a ignition switch on a 2004 ION today with starting issues and security codes. After 30 minute relearn had a no crank condition with relearn successful and customer just arriving to pick car up! Just took a minute for BCM to take the procedure and all was fine, wish too that did more than one every two months!

A 2000 3.0 Ranger, 150,000 on the clock and the plugs never been changed before. 5 come out but number six was buried with crud,. I soaked it over night but no luck, the nut busted off. Don't panic, I can get this. I got the rest of the porcelain with the center electrode out with a tweezers, and the rest of the plug with a splined extractor. No drilling required, the extractor was the perfect size, just tapped it in with a hammer. The splined extractors work well because they don't put as much pressure on the threads. Nothing fell into the cylinder, Phew !!!!Attached FilesComment

Most awesome truck ever, a 2008 F250, hit the left turn signal and the horn blows ???? Didn't realize this until the test drive. Went to turn left and everyone's wondering why I laid on the horn. One of those new audible turn signal things. Only left turns. Traced back to the smart junction boxComment

Ever try to remove a turn over gooseneck ball that's been in the upside down position since dinosaurs roamed the earth ? No way to get a good swing at the thing from underneath because it's right above the differential and it ain't moving. First I welded an inch and a half nut to what was exposed then rattled the heck out of it with my one inch impact. The I spun in an old receiver ball and welded that. Then I used my bearing splitter and any piece of solid metal I could find to put under the bolts and slowly pulled it out. It put up a fight the whole way ( one can of PB blaster later).
Old mechanics wisdom.... Know how to get that out ?....Take a pencil and draw it out heheeeComment

Rust belt Mechanics.
I recently was just schooled, (and still am) on how good we have it here in my area. Had a local customer buy an '02 Altima from a relative back east. Came in with a complaint of hard start 1st thing in the morning. Had new radiator, upper and lower hoses. Turns out, needed head gasket. Pays 10.5 hours for complete job. Took me 12 hours just to remove head. Could not remove sub frame bolts with 3/4" impact, too rusted. Flogged my way through the job. Just happened to look a different direction when installing power steering pump. The floor is completely rotted out where the front tire splash hits. Now replacing with 16G sheet metal.
You guys are my hero's.........

I think I would tried to talk my customer into walking away from it. Seems those 4 bangers are oil burning whores, that ruin the Cats and where the Tchain guides crack and will sound like a bunch of marbles before they will lock up. An 02 all fixed and running be only worth about $1500 if you're lucky .
Don't do it Rambo!

Question of the day
A 2010 Dodge R1500 5.7 4X4. The truck has over sized tires, 35 inchers to be precise. The problem is the traction control activating at low speed turns, with or with out the brakes applied. This results in a hesitation when accelerating out of a turn ( a function of the traction control). You can also feel the ABS pump activating as well as see the command on the scanner. I can't notice any Speed sensor dropouts in the scanner data. These are magneto resistive sensors so voltage amplitude is not a problem. I check the sensor signal at each wheel to be sure.
My question is; could it be possible that the oversize tires are causing the problem. Would the speed signal difference between the inside and outside tires on a sharp turn be greater with larger tires? Could the ABS module calibration be that tight that it identifies this as wheel spin ? I'll post screen shots later.Comment

Hey X, deal with it all the time. fun changing brake lines, fuel lines, tranny lines, patching floors, drilling rusted/frozen bolts on the pinch type struts that never go bad. sub frame bolts frozen and or them welded nuts in the frame break free.
Had my fun with one today also. 02 grand am, no start/starting problem. turn key to start would just crank. Hooked up scanner, turned key to run while scanner I checked data, everything looked fine and car would start. cycle key off/on, car would not start. opened data back up, car would start. HUMMMMM????? Did notice fuel pump wasn't running. Don't know what told me but when I looked at ign. voltage w/ first turn of key only seen 6-8 volts, 10 sec. later would jump to 12.6 volts.
new ign. switch took care of problem. another one for the books. Funny thing that it happened every key cycle the same way and same time.
I've tried and tried, but can't seem to fix stupid!Comment

Hey Bob, don't think that the tire size would be the problem. A 4x4 shop by me lifts trucks all the time, even brand new ones with as high as 38's and that's one thing he never complained about. Now cutting a suspension part off/frame of 60g truck? that has his nerves rattled.I've tried and tried, but can't seem to fix stupid!Comment
