Their diagrams have a nice complete LOOK to them but quite often it doesn't even show or indicate that a connector is in a circuit.
That creates a problem when trying to trace a circuit and verify why a circuit that starts at 'A" and ends at 'B" has a voltage drop, and it's because here is a connection problem that isn't even HINTED at in the diagram-!!!

      S.O.S. WTF????

O.K. I give, anybody have any helpful info on this '05 Jetta 2.5? After previous work, pulled head, replaced bent valves, performed all procedures listed in pro. car ran great for about 5 minutes, idle, and multiple ranges of rpm's. Got questionable heat out of the dash so shut it down and let it sit for about 20 minutes to let any possible air pocket release. Went to fire it up again, ran like ****. misfire codes for cylinders 3, 4, 5. and a cam/crank correlation code. Pulled valve cover, and locked crank. Found Intake cam advanced again. Anyone ever have real trouble with the phasers on these. I can see if it had a chain or tensioner causing a jumped timing issue it would be retarded. I have no clue why it is advancing. My only guess is the phaser has a problem at initial setup and oil pressure eventually sets it in a different position. Is Mitchell listing wrong info? Is there something I am missing while setting Cam timing? This is my 1st time in one of these, it is hydraulic lash adjusted, no Cam caps to remove, just entire Cam holder assembly.

        Lack of heat

If erngine allready went through a heat cycle already , and it were me, I would use the chemical block check kit and test for a head gasket issue at the coolant degas bottle then pull the plugs and see if there is coolant entry in any of the cylinders. Maybe put shop air in cylinder with rockers removed and see if air pressure gets past into the cooling system. Coolant level would rise up , see air bubbles and or get expelled from radiator .Like Torque to yield Headbolts, some cam pulley bolts shouldn't be reused either, they're stretched and lost clamping force

Hey Nick, What monkeys ya guys have working on the Sure Track side? I finally posted a question about this VW, and someone revised my title. If I were looking to help someone and saw a question like that, I wouldn't even look at it.

                I'm that "monkey".

The original subject was "05 jetta 2.5 timing issues."

No need to put the vehicle in the title so I remove them. What would you like me to change it to?

I changed it to Timing issues, not advancing.

I could leave it vague but it requires at least three words unless it's a DTC.

I was afraid of that. I have already posted a reply of another suggestion. The original problem of cam not spinning was found to be loose bolt. Now it turns, but somehow it has advanced itself by approximately a tooth and I have no clue as to why.

                    Sorry about the "Monkey" part.

Well in my new world, we have an xray generator that stopped making enough rays. Had the top level tech support from the factory on the phone several times over the course of three weeks and each time they have told us to replace this board or that board to no avail. The last board they had us swap still didn't solve the problem so they advise that high tension transformer tank is bad. This was early last week when the boss was in houston. He had to fly to California so he sent me to drive to houston on Thursday afternoon, 11 hours later I arrive and do some final confirmation testing to verify some wave dorm signals on control boards before ordering the $4,000.00 tank. Sure enough manufacturer says tank bad. Order it Friday morning for Saturday am delivery. Install tank and the problem has not changed. Boss instructs me to pull the generator and load it up and drive it to tampa, so I load it up and head out to tampa Saturday afternoon. Arrive in Tampa Sunday night and Monday morning I go to the diagnostic lab and we start going thru all the in and out signals with their speciality scope. After much testing and swapping of k ow good components we found a problem in the main wire harness in the chassis of the generator, so we replace it and then it function as designed. Load the generator back up yesterday at 12 tampa time and drive 1038 miles to the site in houston and arrive on site this morning at 6:30 and off loaded it. Got a room and grabbed a few hours of sleep. Went back to the site and hooked it all up. Now it has a different problem that is keeping from communicating with computer system. Now they are saying that we have to Waite till tomorrow when another top level tech is supposed to help with finding the problem.

On a bright note, my hands are clean!

The place in Tampa is wanting me to do some service work for them now. Looks like I might be able to leave the shop sooner then I had been hoping for and go into medical imaging service full time.

I have been in a car for over 55 hours since Thursday morning of last week and worked on site here and in the lab in Tampa for a total of 31 hours.

I've noticed that in Pro demand, at least for later model Ford and GM, OEM scanner data PIDS are often listed with their range or parameters, if you know where to look. Did Ford and GM not make this information available in earlier years ? If it is available could it be added to the PRO ? When I can find this info listed like this, it's very useful. Example below. It's important enough that it should have it's own heading the main menu so it's easier to find.

This is what I'm talking about. If the scanner info could be presented in this type of format for all makes and models,..... the next best thing since sliced bread.

Liljoe, would you like an apprentice???? I am about done with this. LOL. After all the hoopla with the VW, figured what's another $400.00 and more free labor. Threw a cam adjuster (phaser) at it. 5 run cycles later, all still seems good.

I am not going to dance a jig until I fire it up in the A.M.

Have not had a vehicle mess with me this bad since the P.T. with a poorly reground camshaft that opened the valves a bit while in base circle.
